Some say that “alambic” is a corruption of the name Lembeek, while others claim it could come from the French alambic, a type of distillation device once used by gin distillers. Whatever the origin, during this walk in and around Lembeek you will certainly get to know the beer style “lambic”, which is brewed here.
You’ll find Boon Brewery at Fonteinstraat 65 in 1502 Lembeek. The beer shop offers the full range of Boon beers, and there is also a Boon Bar. The brewery can be visited individually or in groups.
The Malakoff Tower is a reconstructed medieval watchtower (1854), and its surrounding estate was once voted the most beautiful spot in Halle. The tower was named after a famous battle that took place on 7 September 1855 during the Crimean War, when French and British forces fought the Russians in what is now Ukraine. A local gin baron commissioned the construction of this small tower and even had the Battle of Malakoff reenacted during a memorable garden party. Since then, the tower has borne this name.
